The NCOs and men wear the cap lines hanging loose and do have a peak edging. All ranks wear the oilskin cover. An undress shabraque for officers was introduced in 1846. It consisted of a plain blue cloth with a scarlet vandyked border. It was covered by a rededged leopard-skin cut square at the rear to cover the blue valise (trimmed red). Men's shabraques are embroidered. The officers wear embroidered pouch belts and richly laced jackets, but have plain black patent leather sabretaches. All ranks wear the slung pelisse and white gloves.

In 1896, blue serge frocks for undress with brass buttons and steel shoulder chains were worn. Brown gloves were introduced. Seven years later the shoulder chains were abolished. 1904 saw considerable changes made to the equipment. The sabretache and shabraque were both abolished (the NCOs and men had been without sabretaches since 1888). Officers' saddles were now covered by a leopard skin with an embroidered scarlet patch on the front. A drab mixture cloth greatcoat of universal pattern was adopted.
